Infertility Journey

Trying To Conceive: Cycle 5

Posted on

Here we are again… another month come and gone with no baby to show for it. This month honestly felt like the longest month to date- mainly because SO MUCH happened in 30 days.

On cycle day 1 of this month I decided to reach out to a reproductive endocrinologist and seek additional testing for both Michael and . I know they say you should try for a year before consulting with a doctor, but honestly screw that, I want answers and I want them now. We are both 100% healthy individuals, there is no reason why this has not happened for us yet, which is why I knew something is off.

I met with Dr. Gelety on October 8th and when through our background. He did an ultrasound and say that I did have follicles growing on either side and based on the size of them he believed that I would ovulate on the right side this month. We followed my app and “did the deed” during my fertile window and I went back a week later for them to take my blood and check my progesterone levels to confirm that I did in fact ovulate– which I did. They also had Michael provide a semen sample for them to run a semen analysis to determine if that may be the cause of our inability to get pregnant… and guess what.

I WAS RIGHT! I KNEW there was something off and his analysis officially determined that we are dealing with Male Factored Infertility, specifically low sperm count and motility (basically he does not have a lot of swimmers and the ones he does have suck at swimming the correct way lol). Dr. Gelety suggested that because of this, the likelihood of us actually getting pregnant naturally is like, less than 5% and that our best option is to move forward with an Intrauterine Insemination procedure (IUI) for our next cycle!

I am super excited and feeling really hopeful that month 6 will finally be our month!
